| Course Catalog Description and Prerequisites |
| 5010. Statistical Analysis. 1.5 hours. Basic descriptive and inferential statistics; includes frequency distributions, averages, dispersions, index numbers, time-series analysis, probability, theoretical distributions, sampling distribution, estimation, tests of significance, chi-square, regression and correlation, analysis of variance and sample design. Prerequisite(s): MATH 1190 or equivalent. This course meets the deficiency requirement of statistics (MSCI 3700 and 3710) for MBA candidates, and may be counted as part of a graduate program in a field other than business administration. |

| Course Objectives |
| GOALS: At the end of the course, students will 1. have an appreciation for the use of statistics in business decision making, 2. be able to select the statistical tool/methodology to aid in business decision making, 3. be able to use a computer spreadsheet program such as Excel to describe and analyze numerical data, 4. be able to communicate in the language of applied business statistics, 5. be able to manipulate simple statistical formulae to solve numerical problems. |
| Course Expectations |
| The primary resource for instruction will be provided with the Adventures in Learning: Business Statistics, which consist of modules on a CD. Each assigned module will be completed by first completing the provided demonstration, reading the lecture material, completing the practice exercises and completing the certification for each module. Modules will be registered on the link provided on WebCT.

| Tests/Quizzes |
| There will be four WebCT quizzes based on the Adventures in Learning: Business Statistics modules. These quizzes will both reinforce the material and serve to illustrate the questions that will be on the final examination. There will be one final exam which will be a comprehensive exam based on Excel and Adventures Tutorial homework. Final exam will be on the Denton Main Campus.

| Major Assignments |
| Students will have 4 Excel exercises assigned to them. Each Excel assignment will have a short demonstration included on the WebCT. The steps for completing the assignment are illustrated. The assignments will be completed by following the written instructions along with the demonstration. The assignments will be completed and turned in via email to the instructors with the assignment attached. |
