Course Catalog Description and Prerequisites
4400. Financial Markets and Institutions. 3 hours. Studies in the operations, mechanics and structure of the U.S. financial system. Topics include commercial banking, non-bank financial institutions, money and capital markets, the impact of monetary policy on financial institutions and markets, and an introduction to the international financial system. Prerequisite(s): FINA 3770 with a grade of C or better.

Course Objectives
This course will teach you the terminology and systematic methodology involved in analyzing financial markets and intermediaries. The material will furnish you with a solid foundation in conceptual and quantitative materials for successful completion of other courses. You will learn that managers of financial intermediaries face two basic problems, how to raise money and how to invest it. This course will cover the basic financial tools to help you understand and analyze the following: 1 The investment decision regarding allocation of assets. 2 The financing decision regarding the costs of short-term and long-term financing. 3 The way investment and financing decisions affect company value and wealth of shareholders. 4 The financial markets in which financial managers make decisions to maximize shareholder wealth by increasing stock price.
