Catalog Description: MGMT 3720 is a junior-level survey course designed to provide you with an overview of the field of organizational behavior. Organizational behavior is defined as the study of individual behavior and group dynamics in organizational settings.
Course Objectives: The specific objectives of MGMT 3720, Organizational Behavior, are:
1. to develop an understanding and appreciation of the systems approach as applied to human and organizational behavior;
2. to understand the foundations of individual behavior;
3. to understand the importance of embracing and managing diversity in organizations;
4. to identify the role of personality and perception in affecting behavior in organizations;
5. to examine a number of traditional and contemporary approaches to work motivation;
6. to examine the important variables in individual and group decision making and problem solving;
7. to develop an awareness of the potent role of groups and teams in organizations, and how they impact performance;
8. to learn how to be a contributing member of a productive team;
9. to understand the importance of managing conflict and negotiation in organizations;
10. to appreciate the role of influence tactics, empowerment, and politics in organizations;
11. to review the current state of knowledge with respect to leadership and leader behavior;
12. to learn about work design and technology in organizations;
13. to learn about organizational culture;
14. to understand how to manage change in organizations;
15. to learn how to manage occupational stress in organizations; and,
16. to apply course concepts to practical organizational problems. |

This is NOT a self-paced course. All "for-credit" assignments, quizzes and Exams will be due/administered at the time(s) given in the Course Syllabus. NO exceptions other than those specified in the Syllabus. If the Syllabus schedule does not suit your situation, please make other enrollment arrangements. This course DOES NOT have anytime exams, quizzes or assignments. Assignments, quizzes and exams are available and due at the times, AND ONLY AT THE TIMES, provided for in the Course Syllabus. Discussions and quizzes are due at 6:00pm Sundays; online Examinations are at 9:00pm on certain Sundays during the course. Examinations have an availability period of 15 minutes. You will have 50 minutes to complete an Exam after opening it during the availability period. There is no provision for making up a missed assignment, due date, quiz, exam, discussion, or any other Syllabus specified component of this INET course. Further, no component of this course will be administered at a time different than that provided in the course syllabus.

Verifiable cases of: birth; death; serious family and /or health problems; acts of God (unpreventable events resulting from natural causes, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and storms -- accidents which are not the result of human factors); transportation accidents; bona fide racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, age, gender, or disability factors; UNT official events; University computer problems affecting ALL students; etc., may constitute grounds for accommodation, and will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. 4 Exams (20% each/80% of grade), 16 Quizzes (10% of grade), 32 Discussion Posts (10% of grade). At the end of the course, 90% of total points and above = A; 80-89% = B; 70-79% =C, etc. FINAL NUMERIC SCORES WILL NOT BE ROUNDED (795 TOTAL POINTS AT THE END OF THE COURSE WILL BE A "C", 899 A "B", ETC). CHAPTER QUIZZES: You will have 16 WebCT Chapter Quizzes over the course term. No Chapter Quiz grades will be dropped. All quizzes are within the Lessons and will be available on and will expire on the dates specified on the Course Schedule. All Quizzes are open book, open notes. Complete the quizzes as you work through each corresponding lesson. You will receive a zero if you do not complete a quiz by its deadline. Each quiz contains 10 multiple choice or True/False questions and has a time limit of 10 minutes (ODA certified students 20 minutes). 12 Chapter Quizzes (those associated with Chapters 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 & 18) are worth 5 points each and 4 Chapter Quizzes (those associated with Chapters 2, 6, 8, 11) are worth 10 points each. You can take a Chapter Quiz only once. UNT WebCT Server time rules for any and all Quiz/Testing purposes. Quiz scores will be posted to your student record in WebCT. THERE IS NO PROVISION FOR MAKING UP A MISSED QUIZ AND NO QUIZ WILL BE GIVEN AT A TIME DIFFERENT THAN THAT PROVIDED IN THE COURSE SYLLABUS.
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION: Part of an effective online class is the synergy created in online discussions. Your assignments require that you participate in online discussions by posting an Original Response to my questions and by Reply to the Original Response or replies of your peers. As part of your course grade, you are required to post at least 16 Original and 16 Reply postings in the discussion forums as requested in the Questions for Discussion section of each Lesson. All Discussion postings are time-sensitive as indicated in the Course Schedule. Discussion forums will be LOCKED UP (no more posts) at the times indicated in the Course Syllabus. No discussion credit will be given if you do not post timely responses to the Discussion Forums. No partial credit -- you must make both posts and answer all questions to receive credit for/in a discussion forum. Discussion credit (points) will be assigned the week following the close of a discussion. 12 Discussions (those associated with Chapters 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 & 18) are worth 5 points each and 4 Discussions (those associated with Chapters 2, 6, 8, 11) are worth 10 points each. Discussion Forums are intended to promote discussion between and among students. THERE IS NO PROVISION FOR MAKING UP A MISSED QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION AND NO QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION WILL BE ADMINISTERED AT A TIME DIFFERENT THAN THAT PROVIDED IN THE COURSE SYLLABUS.
EXAMS: Four timed, open book/open notes exams will be administered online on the dates, at the times, and having the coverage and format indicated in the following schedule. Complete the Exams without the help of anyone else. Each exam will consist of mostly multiple choice, but some True/False, questions. THERE IS NO PROVISION FOR MAKING UP A MISSED EXAM AND NO EXAM WILL BE GIVEN AT A TIME DIFFERENT THAN THAT PROVIDED IN THE COURSE SYLLABUS.
COURSE LESSONS: There are 16 Lessons in this course. Within each lesson are practice activities, assignments, interactive activities, discussion opportunities, Chapter Quizzes and powerpoint slide shows. Your Course Schedule details your progression through each Lesson and its associated Chapter relative to the course term weeks. Lessons are selectively released.
